Wow - what a crazy week!!

This past week has been absolutely crazy. Now, at around 8:30 on Saturday night, I'm finally feeling like I can sit back and take a breath!! Here's what our week was like:
MONDAY - I hate working on Monday. I know, those of you who have to work 5 days a week are wondering what I'm complaining about. But the truth is, I get quite spoiled through November and December. Officially, I work every other day (not including the weekends, of course) but in November, with extra days off for Remembrance Day, parent teacher etc., most weeks I worked Tuesday and Thursday. I have to admit that I'd much rather work on Friday than on Monday. But this past Monday, I had to work. But the story doesn't end there. I'd asked my friend Rhonda if the boys could go to her house after school. Usually they stay at school with me, but I had a bunch of stuff I needed to get done, and it's always easier to get things done when my boys are somewhere else!! On our way home, I decided to take a road that LOOKED nice and clear. After going about a mile and a half, I promptly got stuck (in four wheel drive, no less.) Drew was okay with it (well, as okay as a person could be when his mother does something dumb!), but the younger boys were definitely not happy. Riley was convinced that we were going to die of starvation. He just kept crying, saying, "We're gonna die," and nothing I said could comfort him at all. Of course, by this time it was dark, and none of my boys do really well in the dark. Fortunately for us, one of Doug and Rhonda's neighbours saw us and called them, and Doug brought his truck out to rescue us (thanks, Doug, if you're reading this - sorry I had to drag you away from your supper table!!). But we did end up having to drive about 3/4 a mile in reverse, which Carter did NOT like (every time he felt a little bump, he was sure we were heading for the ditch). Of course, I had called Ray when I first got stuck, but he had to wait for our neighbour to get home with his 4 wheel drive truck before he could come to help. We met him on the road heading for home.
TUESDAY was "veg day" - I didn't do much of anything, but in retrospect, I should have tried to be more ambitious and get some stuff done at home.
WEDNESDAY was school again. Drew likes to go to the Hub on the Wednesdays that I work. The Hub is a teen drop in center in MacGregor, but they open if for kids in grades 5 - 8 on Wednesday afternoons, and Drew goes every chance he gets. He likes to stay right until they close at 5:00, so I stay at school to get a few things done, but that means that by the time Drew gets back, and the boys get their stuff cleaned up, it's usually around 6:00 before we get home.
THURSDAY was right back to school, subbing in grade one (note to self - don't agree to sub on my three day weeks). I did enjoy my time in grade one, because a lot of the kids were students I had last year. But it was still a lot of work. AND I had recess duty (which I don't like in the winter) and I must not have dressed well enough, because I came home with a wicked cold. After school, we went to Portage because I needed to get my glasses adjusted. Last Saturday, I knocked them off the vanity when I was getting ready for a shower, and I stepped on them. Luckily, I felt them under my foot (I thought they were one of the boys' toys) so I didn't put my full weight on them, but they were pretty wonky when I tried to put them on. I sort of bent them back into shape myself, but all week, they've been hurting my ears and my nose. It was such a relief to get them adjusted properly. We did a few other errands while we were in town, and didn't get home until after 9:00. The boys were not impressed that they had to go to bed right away as soon as we got home.
FRIDAY was school, AGAIN! We're going to the post office next week, so I wanted the kids to make a Valentine card that they could mail to their parents. I picked a really cute card, but it turned out to be more challenging than I thought. Even with a parent to help, it took most of the day to finish (thanks, Rhonda, for your help!!!) To top it off, the kids were a bit more "loopy" than usual - very busy, very loud, doing things that I haven't had to remind them not to do for a long time. At the end of the day, one of the Grade one teachers said, "There must be a storm coming in - my kids were kind of crazy today." Sure enough, after dark the snow started coming down, and the wind was quite blustery.
Oh yeah, and our big news from Friday - we have a new addition to our family!!! After Lazer went to doggy heaven, the boys (and Ray) have wanted a dog for quite a while. When I started this blog, my friend Loretta sent me the link for HER blog, and I read that her family had puppies that they were looking to get rid of. So as soon as we got home from school, we turned around and headed to Henry and Loretta's. We didn't tell the boys where we were going, or what we were doing. Carter was actually quite annoyed because he didn't know what was going on, but when he got to see the puppy (we've named him Lucky) and realized that we actually got to take him home and keep him, he turned to me and said, "Mom, that was a pretty good surprise!" When I figure out how to upload pictures, I'll show you a couple of our new "baby!"
Today was extremely laid back. Ray took the garbage to the dump, and we had intended to go to Portage (the boys think Lucky needs some toys) but when Ray got home, he said it the weather was too bad, and we stayed home. And that's where we've been all day.
Oh yeah - one more bit of "news." Drew was quite a happy camper today. We watched the first NASCAR race of the season.
