Let me begin by stating a few facts:
1 - We (and by we, I mean the boys and I. Raymond, not so much) are HUGE football fans.
2 - As a rule, we are not NFL fans. Our game is the CFL.
3 - The CFL season ended in the middle of November.
And so, we've turned to watching the NFL. Not a lot, but we managed to catch several of the playoff games. Just enough to kind of know what's going on, and to decide who we liked, and which team we were going to cheer for. I chose several teams for reasons that would make a true die-hard football fan cringe (for example, I really wanted San Diego to go to the Super Bowl, because my favourite TV show as a young teen was set in San Diego.) Drew wanted Indianapolis to go to the Super Bowl, because they won last year. In the end, obviously, our teams didn't make it. For today's game, we all decided to cheer for New York. (Again, my reasoning for choosing this team was very scientific - if Peyton Manning couldn't win again this year, then another Manning should!!)
I also have to tell you that Raymond doesn't really like watching sports with the rest of us. He likes to sit back, watch quietly and occasionally say (in a calm voice) "Yeah - good play." The boys and I are jump around, scream our heads off, yell at the players kind of spectators. (Ray always wants to know why we're yelling at them - they can't hear us anyway!) So for most of the game, he escaped to the neighbour's house, where he could actually carry on a conversation while watching the game. But he did come back to our house for the last quarter or so.
And what a great game it was!!! We were all excited that New York won, and we may just have to watch more NFL next year. Of course, we are still true-blue CFL fans (and I MEAN "blue" - our favourite team is the Winnipeg Blue Bombers), but this bit of football fever will tide us over until the CFL season starts in July.
Speaking of the season, Drew and I were SO excited to hear that Milt Stegall will be coming back to the Bombers for one more year!!!!! This is our year for the Grey Cup!!!
So football is over in our house for a while. And just in time, too. NASCAR starts next Saturday.
